About
After I made a few Lightroom Presets available on my personal site (www.albertdebruijn.com) I was surprised to see so many downloads in such a short time, almost 1900 within a few months.
I also started getting emails from people thanking me for them and for the other articles I had posted. I thought that was pretty cool. Now I also frequent several forums and found myself answering many Lightroom-related questions.
So I decided to put up a website, dedicated to Lightroom and digital photography and you are now looking at it.
The goal is to become a must-see reference in the online space for anyone seeking tips, tutorials or general information about post-processing digitally captured photos. I know, that’s a tall order, but I figure I must have goals and besides, it’ll keep me out of mischief.

What I bring to the table is many years of experience in digital processing and workflow. Having worked in the publishing industry since 1980, I’ve seen several generations of graphics management software tools come and go, from the mainframe-based Scitex systems of the 80s to Photoshop and now, of course, Lightroom. or, as the official name is, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2. In other words, I “grew up” professionally in the areas of page and graphic design, workflow management, color reproduction and digital asset management. I have taught, designed, marketed and installed many solutions that deal with graphic content, production and management, experiences that have provided a solid foundation for the digital photography era we are currently in.
I have always been on the forefront of technology from the very beginning of digital production (remember that 28 years ago there were no PCs or Macs). As an early adopter of technology, I have had the pleasure of helping and guiding publishers through their growth from those main frame-like, proprietary, systems to modern web-based and Adobe-based solutions.
I have always been a photographer, but it was not until the emergence of digital photography that my areas of expertise converged. Applications such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop CS2&3 (and now 4), Lightroom and Bibble Pro, coupled with the RAW format are not only in use by photographers, but also by publishers of newspapers, magazines and web sites, thus bringing together my two areas of interest. Digital photography is therefore a natural domain for me and it was no surprise that my photographic endeavors have blossomed in the past few years.
Nature and travel photography is what I enjoy doing most. Work in a studio, while intriguing, does not really appeal to me. I would much rather be out in the outdoors in the pursuit of that awe inspiring landscape, or exploring a new place I’ve never been before. I consider myself blessed that I have lived in several different parts of the world and have been able to travel extensively. I was born in the Congo, lived a few years in Liberia, was brought up and went to college in The Netherlands, married and migrated to Australia and now live in Sacramento, California. Just a few hours drive from wonderful places like the Sierra Nevada, Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park.
I am delighted to be sharing my years of experience with other photographers.
Hopefully, some of my tips and tutorials will save you some time, or perhaps even help you grow. I would be pleased to hear from you so feel free to drop me a note any time.
